That didn't take long! North Carolina's newest and neatest indoor track facility will host the indoor state meets starting next year.
Imagine going to the indoor track state meet and having a place for your team to set up and sit down...being able to walk around the facility without fear of crippling one of the poor athletes huddle up against the wall...parking at the actual facility and not having to walk over a half-mile from your car to the facility...being able to sit with 1000 other spectators and still have a great view of the races...being able to warm up in a space reserved just for that, without having to go outside into a 34-degree rainstorm....
Hard as it is to imagine, all of that became reality after JDL Fast Track announced today that they will be hosting the 2013 NCHSAA Indoor State Championships for all classifications. Although the press release does not indicate the possibilities for next year, it does contain this tidbit: "We are excited about JDL Fast Track becoming a championship venue for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, because a venue of this caliber will create a wonderful experience for our student-athletes," said NCHSAA commissioner Davis Whitfield. "This is a beautiful state of the art facility that should be a tremendous home for our indoor track and field championships. We look forward to a long and very positive relationship with the facility and all those who have expressed an interest in hosting our event." It certainly sounds like the meet has found a new home for the long term.
