WCU Graduate Student Helps United States Bring Home Relay Gold from World Championships

Flying home from Turkey, Manteo Mitchell cradled the gold medal he’d helped the United States’ 4x400 relay team win last Sunday at the IAAF World Indoor Championships. The former Western Carolina sprinter looked at the shiny prize. He pinched himself. He had someone else pinch him.

World Youth Update

In 2011, the United States won its sixth straight World Youth (under 18) championships in Lille, France. There are almost two complete seasons until the 2013 championships (for athletes born in 1996 and 1997), but it is not too soon to begin planning. To that end, here is a look at the prospects of winning a seventh team championship in Donetsk, Ukraine.

Latin's Leading Ladies

 

They don’t take leadership responsibilities lightly on the Charlotte Latin girls track and field team.  Granted, the Hawks have had their share of talented runners, jumpers and throwers throughout the years. But Charlotte Latin coach Larry McNulty believes the hallmark of their six – that’s right: six – consecutive state championship teams has been leadership.

East [Henderson]'s Hill Sets New Record, Named Prep Athlete of the Week

2012 TRACK AND FIELD OUTLOOK: Gryphons aim to repeat

 

The idea is for both the Rocky Mount High boys’ and girls’ to repeat as Big East Conference champions, then sweep the 3-A East Regional again.  One team will have a much easier time accomplishing that goal than the other this season, which begins for the Gryphons on Monday.

JDL Fast Track Chosen as Site of 2013 and 2014 Southern Conference Indoor Championships

 

 JDL Fast Track today announced a partnership with the Southern Conference, an NCAA Division I conference, to host its 2013 and 2014 indoor track and field championships. The 2013 meet is February 23‐24;  the 2014 competition is March 1‐2.
