Senior Spotlight: Sydney White

The East Forsyth senior has been drawing national attention in the pole vault since the spring of her sophomore year.

With all of the action on the track at a typical meet, it can be hard to keep up with what's going on in the field events.  The pole vault, however, tends to draw a lot of attention from everyone in the stadium.  That's especially true when someone can jump really high, and Sydney White has been jumping high for three years now.  The three-time 4A state champion (she has 2 indoor and 1 outdoor) holds the highest national ranking of any North Carolina athlete: she was second at both indoor and outdoor nationals last year, and she ranks second in the nation right now.  The East Forsyth senior has had the opportunity to travel around the country (such as to the Pole Vault Summit in Reno, NV) and around the world (competing in the World Youth Games in Lille, France).  Amazingly, if you talk to her you get the sense that she still has a lot of improvement ahead of her in the vault, and she certainly still has some big goals that she has yet to achieve.  This weekend at New Balance Indoor Nationals, keep an eye out for the pole vault results and see if Sydney pulls out the big jump she has been training for all winter.
