Senior Spotlight: Frankie Perone

This winter, NCRunners has been recognizing a group of seniors that may not get the most recognition, either because they run for lesser-known programs, or because they run with teammates that garner more individual attention.  However, all of these seniors are committed, team-first athletes, and many have helped lead some of the best running programs in the state.  That theme reaches its peak today with Frankie Perone of Carrboro, who might be the closest thing to what basketball writers call a "glue guy:" someone who holds the team together and does the little things that make a program successful, while never seeming to get as much individual glory.  Frankie shys away from the spotlight (I had to draw her out a bit for this interview), but her teammates and coaches tell stories of the ways she keeps her team loose with goofy antics, while also keeping them working hard toward their goals.  Make no mistake, though: Frankie is very competitive, and is a great runner in her own right, with a 5K PR of 18:56 and a best 1600 time of 5:16.74 (which earned her third place in the 2A state meet last May).
