It has been a good year for current NC athletes as well as former NC athletes. Johnny Dutch, formerly of Clayton HS, won the NCAA 400m hurdle championships and has one of the fastest times in the world this year, 48.12. He currently runs for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Two former NC high schoolers made the finals of the men's 1500m at the NCAA championships. Jack Bolas, Chapel Hill HS, was 4th overall and Dylan Ferris, East Forsyth, had the lead at one point. Jack runs for Wisconsin and Dylan for Stanford.
Ronnie Ash of Oklahoma was 3rd in the 110m hurdles after winning national championships in the past.
Also, this past weekend, the current NC high schoolers did very well at the New Balance National meet in Greensboro. They were led by Hopewell HS who won the national title in the boy's 4x200m relay. Also, Sean McLean won the boy's 100m dash in a quick 10.41.
This coming weekend, the US Track & Field Championships are in Des Moines, Iowa. The Junior Track Championships are run side by side with the US Champs. Here's a look at which former NC athletes and current NC HS athletes will be competing.
