YEAR OF BRINK

When 2009 started Emma Brink was 2-time XC State Champion, State XC Record Holder and also a 1-time State Track Champion, how do any better than that.  Easy, become an Indoor All-American, win four more state titles, break two more state records and get that much closer to qualifying for Foot Locker Nationals.

Brink started the year with a victory in the One Mile Run in 4:55.75 at the ultra competitive UK High School Invitational in February.  She then finished fifth in the One Mile Run with a 4:55.12 at Nike Indoor Nationals earning All-American honors.

Once Outdoor season began she continued her destruction of the competition winning the distance triple at the Kentucky State Track Meet.  She ran a 5:05 1600m and 11:13 3200m, her middle race was the best as she ran a new Kentucky Overall State Record 2:13.88 in the 800m.  All of that happened in roughly a two hour time period.

This past fall she was undefeated against Kentucky competition including winning two of Kentucky ‘s top races the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational and Lexington Catholic Invitational.  She won her third consecutive Kentucky State Cross Country Meet setting another record on the brand new Horse Park course.  Not stopping there she went to North Carolina finishing 13th at Foot Locker South with a new best time of 17:40 for the 5K.  What a year and hopefully 2010 will bring more of the same.
