Providence Day School graduate Ikem Ekwonu is not going far from home to chase his dreams after being selected No. 6 overall by the Charlotte Panthers in the 2022 NFL Draft. The offensive lineman graduated from Providence Day School in 2019 before heading to Raleigh to attend North Carolina State University.
Ekwonu was runner-up at the 2019 NCISAA Division 1 discus competition and posted a 3rd place finish in the shot put to help his team tie for the state championship.
He holds the school record in discus, holding a personal best of 153-0.
He won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given to the best blocker in the ACC. He was also an unanimous All-American selection.
