Natalie Tyner (Laney) was set to kick off her senior season last weekend at the adidas XC Challenge which was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence. Unfortunately, Tyner's resides in Wilmington, NC, which was hit hard by Florence and will likely be out of school for a little while as the city assess' their damages.
Tyner her mother and sister evacuated up to New Jersey to stay with some of their family as the storm neared landfall.
Laney's Coach Sam Bobbitt confirmed with NCRunners that Tyner is set to compete at this weekend's Bernie Magee Class Meet at Greystone-Central Park in Morris Plains, New Jersey.
The meet is run by class, so she'll compete in the senior girls race against some strong New Jersey competition.
Tyner run under 18 minutes 6 times last year and was the NCHSAA 4A Individual Champion before taking 14th at Foot Locker South as a junior.
Obviously this wasn't the plan for Tyner as she went up North to avoid the Hurricane, so no racing spikes or a uniform was brought. She'll compete unattached with approval from the NJISAA, NCHSAA and NFHS with hopes that a good performance can take their minds off of Hurricane Florence for a little bit.
