The adidas XC Challenge entries did not disappoint! Below are screenshots of the race assignments for this weekend.
On the boys side the Championship race will feature North Carolina's top 5 Flo50 Individuals in Cameron Ponder (Mt. Tabor), David Melville (Northern Guilford), John Tatter (R.J. Reynolds), Coleman Mitchell (Cary Academy) and Dakota Mendenhall (Forbush). Two years ago Connor Lane set the meet record of 14.59.30. This year we're going to see North Carolina's top boys go after some fast times on this WakeMed course. My prediction is at least two of these guys go under 15 minutes this weekend. Ahmad Hassan (Oakton, VA) and Grant Northcutt (Cosby, VA) should challenge these North Carolina stars.
On the girls side we have 5 girls coming in with sub 18 credentials in Victoria Starcher (Ripley, WV), Rachel Northcutt (Cosby, VA), Ailene Edwards (Blacksburg, VA), Kaitlynn Wolfe (Blacksburg, VA) and Natalie Tyner (Laney). Also add in frosh Carmen Alder (Pinecrest) and Mariah Howlett (Lake Norman Charter) who will look to tackle this fast WakeMed course. Edwards and Wolfe both were sub 18 last weekend at Knights Crossing in VA and could have some fast times on the horizon. Wesley Frazier (Ravenscroft, '13) holds the meet record at 17:10, but that was out of the college race. Libby Davidson (E.C. Glass, VA, '17) holds the high school race meet record of 17:16.40 from 2014. I think those records are going to be tough to touch this weekend, but I see a lot of girls breaking 18 minutes.
