Previously, North Lincoln was known as a 2A powerhouse in XC before a short stint in 3A the last few years. Walkertown emerged as a 1A power winning the last two XC state titles on the boys side. The two programs will clash next year and in the future in XC. Walkertown will return their entire top 7 from this years squad. A team to keep an eye on will be NC Science and Math. They only have Juniors and Seniors in the school and sit in 8th with only juniors showing in the returning ranks. With a strong incoming junior class in 2017 they can easily rise to the top of these rankings.
Individually, Landon Maxwell of West Wilkes was 5th at the 3A State Championships this season, and will challenge for a 2A Individual title in 2017.
