We caught up with former Hickory High School and NC State runner Ryan Hill.  Hill recently competed in the 3K at USA Indoor Nationals and World Indoor Nationals.  Hill took first at USAs and then took home a Silver Medal for the US against a very strong field with an epic last 200.  His final 1K from World was 2:21!  Ryan currently trains with Bowerman Track Club in Portland, Oregon.


What was your race plan entering the weekend for safely making it through the trial rounds and then for the final?

-The preliminary round was all about making it through in the top 4 as easily as possible. The safest way to do that was to get to the front and stay out of traffic. For the final my strategy was similar, get to the front and stay there. I was mentally prepared to make any move that the Africans did. 

What was your mindset when you were on the starting line for the final?

-I was confident that I had the strength and speed of anybody in the field. The doubt was, would I be able to ...
