David Oliver Classic Mega-Recap

Boys Events Recap

It wasn't just the Elite events that produced top time - the Friday night and Saturday morning sessions were loaded with strong performances, as well:

  • Terrell Adams (Mallard Creek) didn't improve on his season best, but he did break the meet record in the shot put with a throw of 55' 11.75".
  • Sophomore Cameron Ponder (Mount Tabor NC) won the 1600 in 4:23.60, the #4 time in the nation among his Class of 2018 peers.
  • Fitsum Seyoum (Tuscarora VA) was in control of the 3200 the whole way en route to a US #12 9:25.34, with David Melville (Northern Guilford) in second at 9:29.97 NC #1.
  • Green Hope improved their NC #1 time in the indoor 4x200 to 1:32.19, making them the favorite next Saturday - although as usual it will be an outdoor mark that takes the top seed in that race.
  • Before he made it to the finals of the 60 Hurdles, Cedric McGriff (Providence) moved up to NC #6 in the 55 Hurdles with a 7.65, putting himself in position to challenge for a podium spot at the 4A state meet.
  • Marcus Krah (Hillside) took advantage of his last chance to qualify for the state meet in the long jump, putting up a NC #2 22' 3" and giving himself another shot at getting back into the 23's this winter.
  • The pole vault was a highly competitive 3-man battle until the end, with co-state leader Elijah Cole (Millbrook) getting all he could handle from Marvin Ridge teammates Bailey Frederick & Carter Clasper.  All three ended up at 15 feet, which was a PR for Clasper.
  • Southeast Raleigh closed out the meet with a 3:17.05 in the 4x400, good for NC #3.
