Broughton senior Jeremy Brown has been named North Carolina's Gatorade Player of the Year in boys cross country, giving him the honor in back-to-back years. The annual award is given to one male and one female runner in every state, and the recipients are eligible for selection as the National Player of the Year in the sport. From the pool of national winners in every sport, male and female Athletes of the Year will be chosen.
Jeremy won his second straight 4A state championship this fall, and made it onto the 4A all-state team for the 4th consecutive year. He posted the 2nd-fastest time of the season, and his only loss in major competition during the regular season and NC championship season was to Connor Lane at the adidas XC Challenge. Brown is headed to UNC next year to run track and cross country.

Jeremy's Gatorade PoY Profile
Prior to Brown's two years winning the award, no other North Carolina male had won twice. Ben Huffman (Providence Day/Harvard) and Bakri Abushouk (Cary/NC State) were the previous two winners, and past honorees include professional runners Ryan Hill (Hickory/NC State) and Jake Hurysz (Eastern Alamance/Colorado).
