Green Hope's boys lead all three distances using indoor times only, and behind the Falcons you can find three other traditional powers, all trying to gain as much ground as possible before the 2016 cross country season starts.
If you want to have a strong cross country program, then every season matters. Historically, and especially in recent years, the schools that have the most participation in distance races during the winter and spring are always among the best teams in the fall. Having your runners train year-round and continue to improve their race tactics and competitive mentality do pay off, especially for squads that can convince lots of runners to compete in the 3200.
Every winter, we try to check in on which teams are having the most success during the "cross country offseason" - that is, the other 9 months of the year. If you're one of the many runners in the state that grinds through your less-favorite seasons for three-quarters of the year just to be your best in your favorite quarter, this report is for you!
NOTE: these rankings only include true indoor times, because that is the only option that the database allows right now. Yes, it WOULD be very interesting to include polar bear times in these rankings!
