Boys Championship Race
A group of 5 boys lead initially by Alex Cornwell (Hickory Ridge) battled it out throughout the whole race. Other runners in that pack were Coleman Mitchell (Cary Academy), Jack Ratterree (Charlotte Latin), Noah Shore (Asheville), and Jackson Ellenburg (Ashley Ridge, SC). They remained in a tight pack until they emerged from the woods over the last mile headed to the final loop around the lake. At this point Shore was trying to pull away from the field as it was a sprint to the finish. But Ellenburg was able to remain in striking distance and reel him in over the final 200 meters and hold on to win in 15:48. Shore was able to hold off the late surge from Mitchell as they finished second and third both in 15:54, the first time under 16 for both. After leading most of the race Cornwell didn't have the legs at the end, but still was able to finish 4th just ahead of Ratterree.
