Girls 3A Midwest Region
Teams to Watch
As usual, Marvin Ridge looks to score low points as they continue to dominate this region. North Lincoln will battle a Cuthbertson team that really came on strong as a top program in 3A last year. The status of lead runner Alexia Noch will determine how well they compete against North Lincoln (see below). Weddington lost a lot to graduation, but still return a good squad, and the word is that their young talent is looking very good this summer. The Warriors always seem to be towards the top of this region, and despite the rankings I'd assume no different this year. Both Weddington and Northwest Cabarrus lack a strong 4th and 5th runner and will need some girls to step up if they want to solidify a spot at the state meet.
Athletes to Watch
Alexa King (Marvin Ridge) has won this regional the past two years, and I'd expect the same in her junior season. Jaeden Phelix (Piedmont) had an excellent start to her high school career, and cross country seemed to be her strongest season, so expect big things from her in her sophomore campaign. Alexia Noch (Cuthbertson) missed most of the indoor and outdoor track season, and we didn't see her run individually in either season; if healthy she will surely contend for a top spot here. Kylie Hennessey (Marvin Ridge) is a sleeper in this region - she finished 4th at 3A indoor states, and developed well over the spring season.
