Teams to Watch
According to the database, Northern Guilford should finish well ahead of the other Mideast teams. Placing three runners in the top ten makes them hard to beat, but look out for Chapel Hill who may also slip a third runner into the top ten. Chapel Hill's main chance to overcome Northern Guilford, however, will be a significant step-up of runners 4 and 5. The race for third is up for grabs between Terry Sanford, Cedar Ridge, and even Orange. With three teams in such close scoring distance, the discipline and diligence of the runners in the summer training months will certainly play a role in the final say of who takes home third place.
Athletes to Watch
Hunter Gilbert and David Melville have established themselves as the Mideast's top 2 athletes. Gilbert's 2014 time of 15:49 was an improvement of well over a minute from his previous cross country season, and his 2015 1600m and sub-2 minute time in the 800m suggest that he may be on track for another big time drop. Though Melville's 2014 time was a small stretch behind Gilbert's, it will be interesting to see how fast he can run this year as a sophomore; if he has settled into his high school training well, he may put himself within striking range of Gilbert. Keep an eye on Reagan Fedowitz (Union Pines), who led the region in the 1600 during the spring season and ranked 3rd in the 3200 behind Melville and Gilbert.
