XC Preview: NCHSAA 3A By Region

Girls 3A Mideast Region

Teams to Watch

With five of the top six runners in the region, Chapel Hill is sure to run away with the regional title. Having such a strong returning team, Chapel Hill would be a candidate to take the state title, even if Cardinal Gibbons hadn't moved up to 4A. Though there may be no additional competition for a first place regional finish, the race for team runner-up between Orange and Northern Guilford should be interesting. If all of the two teams' runners are to return in comparable fitness, the race could fall in favor of the team that can pick off the most people in the final stretch.

Athletes to Watch

The runners of Chapel Hill will be stealing the show in the Mideast. The team could easily put four runners under the 19-minute mark, with Katherine Dokholyan and Marija Crook having already broken the barrier and Clare McNamara and Reagan Roeber being just on the cusp. Dokholyan was a freshman last year, so it will be interesting to see how a full year of training will impact her already swift 18:52. Tori Martin ran well last fall, but seemed to struggle in track events throughout the rest of the year (perhaps as a consequence of splitting time with the pole vault); will she find herself below the 19-minute mark again this fall?
