Boys 1A Midwest Region
Teams to Watch
The returning cross country rankings say Walkertown is the slightest of favorites in one of the most competitive regionals in the state, with three teams lined up right behind them and hoping to knock them off. Results from the spring say the Wolfpack may have opened the gap wider, as they had 3 runners under 11 minutes in the 3200 (nobody else had more than one). Elkin and Gray Stone Day also had solid track results, while Chatham Central returns enough talent to be right in the mix.
Athletes to Watch
Matthew Rogers is part of the reason why Walkertown enters the season in the driver's seat - he is the top returner in the region, and also had the best 1600 time in the spring. Elkin is led by Jacob Parker, who was the only runner in the Midwest 1A to break 10 minutes for 3200 during the most recent track season. Keep an eye on Kyle Rhodes (East Wilkes), who may be closer to the two returning leaders than even his 5K time indicates.
