The two juniors will represent Team USA against an international field of returning high school athletes in Havana.
Two North Carolina standout juniors have been selected to compete as part of Team USA in the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational this weekend. Anna Cockrell (Providence Day) and Dylan Peebles (Wakefield) are already in Havana, Cuba, for the historic event, one of the few athletic competitions involving US and Cuban athletes since our country relaxed travel and trade restrictions with the nearby island nation last year. Undoubtedly, the meet will be far more than just an international competition for these two athletes - the opportunity to visit a country that was previously closed to US citizens, and to mingle with athletes from Cuba and many other countries, will have a much bigger impact on their lives than anything they do on the track!
