Former Walter Williams star distance runner Graham Crawford, now a redshirt junior at NC State, ran 3:40.67 for the 1500 at the Payton Jordan Invitational this past weekend. Crawford, who won the 3A cross country championship in high school but never finished higher than 2nd in a track event, currently ranks 12th in NCAA Division I at that distance.
Interestingly, the time is almost identical to his former teammate, Craig Engels (Reagan/Ole Miss), who has run 3:40.28. That raises the possibility that the two could square off at the Division I Southeast Regional at the end of this month! Engels ran the 800 this past weekend at LSU, posting an impressive 1:46.13 that ranks 4th in Division I right now. Here is video of the race, courtesy of the Ole Miss coaching staff:
