4A Regionals Mega Preview

The final chapter in the legacy of 6 senior Mustangs begins Saturday in Greensboro.

4A East Regional

Athletes to Watch
  • Sprinter Nyasia Daniels (South Central)
  • South View distance runners Taylor Delaney and Janay Hall, plus Kate Sanborn (Jack Britt) and Rachel VonCannon (Pinecrest)
  • Jamie Stacey (Ashley): 100, 200, Long & Triple Jump
  • Sprinters Brandon Smith (Hoke), Cedric Terry (Scotland), and Quincy Ridley (Overhills)
  • Distance runner Philip Hall
  • Joshua McGowen (Overhills): 110H, 300H, Long Jump
  • Thrower Ryan Davis (Pine Forest)
  • Jumpers Darryl Shaw (Jack Britt) and Mykol Branch (Laney)
Teams to Watch
  • South View's girls are the favorites, but Jack Britt, South Central, and Pinecrest are all close enough to make this a very interesting team battle.
  • On the other side, South View's boys might be a little underrated since Philip Hall's best mile time doesn't get picked up in the virtual meet. Still, Overhills and Pine Forest are both close enough to threaten the Tigers.

4A Mideast Regional

Athletes to Watch
  • Sydnei Murphy (Apex): 100, 200, Long & Triple Jump
  • Layla White (Cary): 200, 400
  • ALL the distance runners: Julia Brown (Cary), G'Jamyne Butler (Leesville Road), Elly Henes (Green Hope), Kayla Holder (Wake Forest), and Rebekah Greengrass (Panther Creek)
  • Hurdlers Nyah Hines (Garner), Breanne Bygrave (Wakefield), Kennedy Thorne (Clayton), Lakeisha "Mimi" Warner (Cary)
  • Throwers Hasana Clark and Tiffany Dunham (Southeast Raleigh)
  • Jumper K'Lynn Beal (Broughton)
  • Vaulters Anna Eaton and Zoe Early (Apex)
  • Sprinters Rodney Rowe (Clayton), Dylan Peeples (Wakefield), and Jayon Woodard (Southeast Raleigh).
  • Wake Forest sprinters Bryce Love, Tyri Beard, Christian Bass, and Jonathan Iyamu
  • Distance runner Kyle Christ (West Johnston)
  • Hurdlers Emmanuel Jackson (Sanderson) and Dominick Patterson (Enloe)
  • Thrower Terrell Adams (Middle Creek)
  • Jumpers Jamie Brown (Knightdale), Jonte Leaston (Millbrook), and Davon Newton (Garner)
  • Apex vaulters Drew Pedersen and Michael Utecht
Teams to Watch
  • Cary's girls are the favorites, entering with a solid lead over Southeast Raleigh, and everyone else is hoping for third (Wakefield and Apex are the best candidates there).
  • Wake Forest, Millbrook, and Green Hope are predicted to be clustered together in a battle for second, but will any of them have enough points to threaten Apex?

4A Midwest Regional

Athletes to Watch
  • ALL the sprinters: Tamara Clark (High Point Central), Katlin Sherman (Parkland), McKinley McNeill (Parkland), Charla Ward (Ragsdale)
  • Hurdler Ebony Williams (Parkland)
  • Distance runners Carolina Yarbrough (Page) and Mason Kepley (High Point Central)
  • Thrower Jza-Quashia "Mookie" Chavis (Northern Durham)
  • Jumpers Janele Terry (Page), Jahnae Bowman (Parkland), and Nateja Hale (Parkland)
  • High jumpers Jordyn Brown (Jordan), Kayla Nesbitt-McEwen (High Point Central), and Sarah Timberlake (West Forsyth)
  • Vaulter Chesney Ward (Ragsdale)
  • Sprinter Ky-Mani Dula (Southern Alamance)
  • Distance runner Kenny Kneisel (Mount Tabor)
  • Hillside hurdlers McKinley Brown and Marcus Krah
  • Throwers Iyin Battle (East Chapel Hill) and Mark Bailey (Ragsdale)
  • Jumpers Marcus Krah (Hillside), Xavier Unanka (Southeast Guilford), Tevin Quick (Ragsdale), and Jordan Dale (Northwest Guilford)
  • Vaulter Joseph Popek (Ragsdale)
Teams to Watch
  • High Point Central has developed a strong, young sprints & jumps crew, and with senior Kepley running well the Bison would take almost any regional...but, well, Parkland. Ragsdale, Hillside, and Dudley will likely end up battling for third.
  • On the other hand, the boys' scores look like they're completely up in the air. Ragsdale is a slight favorite, but West Forsyth and Hillside are right behind - and if Marcus Krah is healthy again after being out for a good chunk of the season, that favors the Hornets.

4A West Regional

Athletes to Watch
  • Gabrielle Cunningham (Mallard Creek): 100, 200, 100H
  • Distance runners Maddie McHugh (Hough), Grace Sullivan (Providence), and Kathleen Mansure (Watauga).
  • Throwers Alycia Springs (Mallard Creek) and Khayla Dawson (Olympic).
  • Jumpers Elyse King (T.C. Roberson), Nicole Lawson (Hopewell), and Kenya Livingston (Rocky River), plus more.
  • Vaulter Cassie Kowalski (Hough)
  • Sprinters Cravont Charleston (Mallard Creek), Chuka Soronnadi (Butler), and Kaylan Love-Soles (Rocky River).
  • Butler distance runners Matthew Barrera and Shad McGrew
  • Hurdler Brent Carroll (Phillip O. Berry)
  • Jumpers Markel Dalton (Jay M. Robinson), Keon Howe (Mallard Creek), and Steve Fossi-Noue (Mallard Creek) - and Howe is a vaulter, too!
Teams to Watch
  • Mallard Creek and T.C. Roberson are both loaded, and they should stage a titanic battle for the regional crown. Olympic and Ardrey Kell are at the top of the next tier, but will likely end up fighting for 3rd.
  • Mallard Creek looks dominant at the regional level, and could be a state title contender. The battle for second should be interesting, with Butler the leader coming into the meet, but Berry and Lake Norman close enough to have a shot at the trophy.
