Join the UNOFFICIAL JV State Championship! Frosh/Soph Invitational Entries Close Thursday

Entries close at Midnight on Thursday. We already have over 15 teams entered for the 2015 Frosh/Soph Invitational, plus many individuals, and there is plenty of room for the meet to grow! The winner of each event is crowned as "The UNOFFICIAL JV State Champion," and the meet provides a championship atmosphere for younger athletes that don't get to see the spotlight as often.

North Carolina's current athletes know the Frosh/Soph Invitational as a "meet within a meet," occupying a featured role inside the NCRunners Elite Invitational - that is how the events have been organized over the last 4 years. The state's original 9-10 meet actually goes back a lot farther than that, and was a stand-alone invitational for many years before being paired with the Elite event. The meet was originally the idea of legendary Forsyth County coaches Norman Trzaskoma and Scott Brent, and was held for many years in that county before falling out of favor and disappearing for a while. In 2001 it was resurrected by Trzaskoma and current NCRunners webmaster Jeff George, who coached together at RJ Reynolds (hence the username "CoachGeorgeRJR"), and has been held in most years since then, with a few interruptions due to logistical issues.

In 2015, the UNOFFICIAL JV State Championship is back to standing on its own, shining the spotlight squarely on the future stars in our state. The meet's purpose is to provide a championship atmosphere for athletes that may not go on to their regional meet, as well as to provide a stage for the top 9th- and 10th-graders in the state to show that they can compete with the upperclass athletes. There will also be a handful of Junior/Senior races, which provide a last-chance qualifier or simply a final race for an athlete that won't be able to go on to the regional meet.
