Meet the Pros Friday, Then See them Run Saturday: Camel City Elite Preview

Nick Symmonds was the headliner last year, but this time around the field is deeper and has more big names - and you can meet them as well as watching them compete!

Friday Afternoon: Meet the Pros

Opportunities to see professional runners compete in person are relatively rare in North Carolina. Opportunities to meet and interact with them are even more rare! That's exactly what you can get this evening at JDL Fast Track, when the participants in the Camel City Elite races will be available for a Meet & Greet. Between 4:00 and 6:00, Olympians and World Champions will be on hand to interact with fans: Leo Manzano, Shannon Rowbury, Will Leer, and many others.

Phoebe Wright and Heather Kampf are back after their exciting finish in last year's 800.

Saturday Afternoon: See the Pros Run

The Camel City Elite races are expected to begin in the mid-afternoon on Saturday, although it is impossible to predict exactly when they will go. In addition to the professional runners, several top collegians will compete, including former NC prep stars Graham Crawford (NC State/Walter Williams), Blake Dodge (UNC/West Carteret), Sammy George (NC State/Millbrook), Ryan Walling (UNC/Green Hope), and Sarah Rapp (Virginia Tech/Cardinal Gibbons). In addition, current the current US leader among high school milers, Ryen Frazier (Ravenscroft), will be in the Mile.

The Elite action starts with the 800, then the 3000 comes next. There will be three 60 Hurdle races in the middle of the session - the two college finals, plus a mens' professional race - and then the signature Camel City Miles conclude the "meet within a meet." Check out the all-star line-up:

  • Leo Manzano: Olympic Silver Medalist
  • Jason Richardson: Olympic Silver Medalist
  • David Oliver: World Champion & Olympian
  • Shannon Rowbury: Olympian, World Bronze Medalist
  • Morgan Uceny: Olympian
  • Geena Gall: Olympian
  • Will Leer: USATF Indoor National Champion
  • Spencer Adams: former Butler hurdler and NC state champion
  • Many more!

Frazier's PR of 4:44 puts her less than 10 seconds off last year's winner.

In Between, Some Amazing Collegiate Action

With over 50 colleges and universities entered, this meet has quickly become one of the biggest on the NCAA schedule. It is also loaded with former North Carolina high-schoolers, so there will be tons of familiar faces for any fan of our sport to see.
