At it winter Board of Directors meeting, the NCHSAA approved several notable changes to the rules and schedules for the running sports. The biggest ones are:
- Beginning in the 2015-2016 school year, indoor track will start on the same day as all other winter sports. Up to this point, the winter track season has started two weeks later than the other sports.
- Beginning in the 2015-2016 school year, the outdoor track state championships will all be on the same weekend at the same location. 1A and 3A will be on Friday, with 2A and 4A together on Saturday. That means all schools will have the same regional reporting date and end to the regular season.
The NCHSAA made two other small changes to cross country and track rules:
- Increased the number of individual advancers from the cross country regional meets to 7 instead of 5. This doesn't really solve any problems, and does not match the proposal that the NCTCCCA submitted that asked them to expand the number of teams advancing from 4 to 5.
- Eliminated the "split squad" rule, allowing teams to send athletes to different meets on the same day.
