Conservative Tactics Lead to Repeat Win: 2A Boys State Meet Recap

As the NCRunners crew arrived at 9:00 to begin setting up, it was clear that the weather was getting worse.  The rain had been light all morning, but it began to fall harder just as the wind began to blow harder across the start-finish area of Ivey Redmon Sports Complex.  By the time the races started, it was clear the 2A boys were in for a cold, wet run.  And yet, there was still plenty of energy in the air despite the weather - after all, the state meet is a celebration of the sport of cross country, and the atmosphere is unmatched anywhere else.  The pre-race favorite, Science & Math, had the advantage of depth, and it showed in the tactics the Unicorns employed.  The two main contenders, Durham School of the Arts (DSA) and Central Academy of Technology (CATA), knew they would have to be aggressive to overcome that strength.
