Heat + Tough Courses = Rough Going: Weekend 4 in Review

Jacob Gonzalez (South Johnston) turned a conservative start into a solid win, managing the heat well.

In the boys' race, Jacob Gonzalez (South Johnston) saved energy early in the race, allowing him to battle through the heat to claim the victory in the final mile, runn 16:36.  It was Northern Nash taking the impressive team win over West Carteret, though, that served as the big surprise of the meet - the Knights had 4 guys under 17:24.  On the girls' side, Emme Fisher (West Carteret) took advantage of a wrong turn by Kayla Holder (Wake Forest) and brought home the win in 19:33.  It wasn't enough to get the Patriots past hometown rival Swansboro, though, as the latter team's depth led them to a 5-point win.
