Busy Weekend Ahead!

NCHSAA 3A State Championships

Boys & Girls 3A Performance Lists

The favorites look to be:

  1. Jason Roberts of SW Guilford has thrown 53-07 in the shot put. He's about 2 feet further than Antonio Allison of West Iredell.
  2. Jamel Allison of Mooresville has popped a 46' triple mark. He's also about 2 feet further than the 2nd seed.
  3. Ryan Oakes of White Oak, the indoor champion, has cleared 14 feet this outdoor season. He's one foot higher than Nick Kipicko of Rockingham County and a few other guys.
  4. Ryan Hill will be a big favorite in the 3200 with a 9:10 this season. He's also run 4 seconds faster than anyone else in the 600.

The meet itself looks to be awesome. You have teams like Carver who will score a lot in the sprints, TC Roberson and Mooresville are XC powerhouses but also have plenty in other places. Asheville has run strongly all season in the distance with North a couple freshmen. They were ranked highly in the "power rankings", so we'll see if they can back that up. Parkland, Eastern Alamance, and TW Andrews should also be in the mix team wise.

For the girls, the favorites look to be:

  1. Possibly the biggest favorite is in the discus. Vicki Mitchell of West Craven has unleashed a throw of 130' this season. 2nd is sitting about 16 feet back.
  2. Radiance Basden has jumped 2 feet further than her nearest competition in the triple. Definite favorite.
  3. Forestview's Stormy Kendrick ran a very impressive 12.08 at her regional. Blazing! Parkland's Christine Council ran 12.12 earlier this season, but Kendrick's time is almost 3 tenths better from the regionals.
  4. Parkland's 4x100 looks tough as they are the only team under 50 seconds coming out of the regional.
  5. Kelsey McCorkle of South Central has moved up in distance a bit and it's working for her as she is seeded a full second ahead of Yvonna Hines in the 400.
  6. The 800 should turn out to be a very good race, but going in Stephanie Rose of White Oak has the fastest time of 2:20.

TC Roberson comes in as the favorite. They have been ranked #1 in the Coaches Poll all season. White Oak looks to be a contender to knock off TCR with their all around team. Other teams such as: Ragsdale, Western Guilford, Parkland, NE Guilford, and Jacksonville are my picks to be towards the top as well. A lot can happen in this meet with many of the events very close. Can't wait to see what happens.
