What Did We Learn from Weekend 3? The Jungle Run Rules Labor Day

Chapel Hill's Girls Are Deep And Strong

If you've been around for a while in this state, you remember Chapel Hill teams that could roll into an early-season meet and win three races - the top varsity with their best 7, the lower varsity race with he second 7, and the JV race with the remaining runners.  The thing is, that used to be the way the Chapel Hill BOYS would dominate meets; the Tiger girls were always strong, but never seemed to be as endlessly deep as their male counterparts (at least to my memory).  Now, the roles have flipped, as the ladies claimed all three races at the Jungle run, scoring 49 in the Championship race, 20 in the Invitational race (1-2-4-6-7), and then a perfect 15 in the Developmental race.  That puts Chapel Hill all the way up to #2 in current team rankings (although it is way too early for those to be accurate).  It also means the Tigers have an impressive well of young talent on which to draw in the future: they rank 2nd in returning rankings for 2015 right now, and first in returning rankings for 2016 (which includes only current 9th and 10th grade runners).

By the way, the Tiger boys also looked very good on Saturday night, running fast enough to rank 5th in the overall team rankings right now.  Chapel Hill finished 3rd in the Boys Championship, 2nd in the Invitational, and 2nd in the Developmental.
