Murphy, Friday Earn Gatorade Player of the Year Honors

The Apex junior and the recent Cherryville graduate have earned the honor, given annually to a male and a female in each sport.

Gatorade has bestowed its annual statewide award for our sport on two of the brightest stars of the spring season.  Trentavis Friday received the boys' award after a season that saw him at #1 in the nation in both the 100 and 200, as well as earning 2 indoor national titles and another one outdoors.  Despite all of those impressive stats, it still must have been a difficult decision between Friday and Isaiah Moore, who also excelled on the national stage (though his biggest highlights did come very late in the outdoor season).  On the girls' side, the award went to Sydnei Murphy, who led the state in the long jump and triple jump as well as excelling in the sprints.  Murphy may have cemented her status as the state's top female athlete with an outstanding triple jump performance at New Balance Nationals.
