It's possible that Lydia Laws (Western Alamance) could be an MVP candidate while only winning one event. In addition to her jumps (see below), she has the top seed and the best PR of anyone in the 300 hurdles, where she is the defending champion. She will have an uphill battle in the 100's, though, with Kylie McMillan (Southern Guilford) the favorite and two other sub-15 hurdlers in the mix: Kayla Gandy (Cardinal Gibbons) and Kayla Ruff (Hickory). Ruff is also a likely challenger in the 300, along with Tamilia Wright (Williams).
The 100 looks like the sprint race most likely to produce a competitive race for gold. Alex Council (Northwood) has been running the best times of her career, and she will have the top seed, but Qizeah Jackson (Westover) won the race at last year's state meet and will not give up the repeat win easily.
