Girls Preview (Virtual Meet)

Events to Watch

The 100 Dash features 8 athletes that ahve run within 0.22 of each other, which makes the event completely up for grabs.  The 800 should also be interesting, with the top two (Cary Christian's Marissa Bishop and St. David's Abby Adams) are very close in terms of incoming times.  Behind those two, there could be a pretty intense battle for 3rd place.

Athletes to Watch

Aminah Ghaffar.  If you go to this meet, watch Aminah Ghaffar.  The Fayetteville Academy senior, bound for ECU next year, will dominate the hurdles.  She could have been the top seed in the 400, as well, had she chosen to enter; instead, she will be in the long jump, where she is equally dominant.  7th-grader Marissa Bishop (Cary Christian) is the top seed in the 1600 and 3200, although 8th-grader Melissa Zammitti (Davidson Day) may stand in her way.  Kaylan Bridges (Victory Christian) is the top seed in the discus, and she has championship experience.  Victoria Workman (Burlington Christian) is a heavy favorite in the triple jump, as her season best is nearly three feet better than anyone else in the meet.

Teams To Watch

This classification has been dominated by Victory Christian the last several years, but many of their athletes have moved to other schools this year.  That leaves the door wide open for several teams that have a chance to win, including Fayetteville Academy, Westchester Country Day, and Cary Christian.  Westchester will need to be strong in the relays to get the title, and they hold the top seed in the 4x200 and 4x400.

Boys Preview (Virtual Meet)

Events to Watch

The 400 looks like it will be super competitive, with four guys that have run withing 0.25 of each other at the top of the ranking.  In the discus, teammates Ricky Smith and Jake Helms of Davidson Day will be neck-and-neck for the title, and there are several throwers close enough behind them that one could catch a good throw and leapfrog into a gold medal.  The long jump has a group of three close competitors up front, and then a tight pack of 5 athletes behind that, which means that nobody can really predict the correct order of finish.

Athletes to Watch

Jordan Brown (Davidson Day) is the best sprinter in this classification, and should be able to win the 100 and 200 (although he might be pushed in the 200).  Trevor Sleight (Carolina Day) has been one of the best distance runners in any classification for two years now, and although the 1600 is not his best event he should still be able to win both that and the 3200.  Ricky Smith (Davidson Day) is the top thrower, and is especially strong in the shot put.  Tremayne Fuller (Fayetteville Christian) has cleared 6' 5", which makes him a heavy favorite to win the high jump, and he is also the incoming leader in the long jump.

Teams To Watch

Davidson Day has a very strong team, and if they win the 4x100 and 4x200 they will be tough to beat.  Westchester Country Day looks like the closest competition, although they rely on depth points, which can be dicey in a championship meet.
