Let me tell you something about Kristen Lee: she's shy. VERY shy. I've been trying to get an interview with her for over a year, and finally cornered her at the indoor state championships. After all that avoiding me, she spoke very well and seemed completely composed during the interview. Kristen is bound for Virginia Tech, and she cleared 13' 5" last weekend at her regional meet, which is the top mark in state history. It's not hard to picture her having more success, either; if she continues to build strength and speed, she has the potential to be a 14-foot vaulter sooner rather than later. Kristen works very hard at her signature event as well as in the classroom. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about her, though, is the respect, admiration, and affection that the other vaulters in the state have for her. I think that shows, more than anything else, the kind of young woman she truly is.
