VA @ Penn (Saturday): Westfield boys (7:41) fall just short of repeat as 4x800 champs

The Westfield boys nearly pulled it off and almost became repeat Championships of America winners in the 4x800 meter relay. After running a 7:47 qualifying time for Saturday's finals in front of the biggest crowds of the weekend at the Penn Relays. The foursome of Max Chambers, Jeff Edmondson, Troy Sevachko, and Nathan Kiley for Westfield came to race in a title defense attempt and battled it out in a classic duel with New Jersey's Pleasantville High School.

Friday @ Penn Relays: Sean McGorty 4:04 Penn Relays record mile! Forest Park 41.15 4x100!

Photo by Tim O'Dowd Penn Relays has a lot of history. For any athlete to break any meet record at the 119th annual event is quite a few considering how many great athletes converge on Franklin Field every April. Chantilly senior Sean McGorty etched himself in the meet record books with a race performance of epicness. Leading wire to wire and closing with a 59.5 last quarter, McGorty ran a new national leading time and broke the high school mile race record at Penn with a 4:04.57 victory against a top caliber field. More to come on McGorty's race as well as other Virginians performances on Friday and Saturday following the completion of hosting the MileStat.com Track Classic this weekend. Penn Relays Recap (Illinois Version) - LWE All-Time State Record

This is the last hurrah for Prairie State runners venturing out of state… at least until after the state championships are conducted at the end of May.  At any rate, the Frankfort Lincoln-Way East Girls 4x100m relay team and Shamier Little (Sr., Chicago Lindblom College Prep) ventured east to Philadelphia to compete in the 119th Penn Relays- the world famous Penn Relays.

119th Penn Relays National Preview

PHILADELPHIA – The event that often draws the most excitement at track and field meets is the one-mile run. It should be no different this weekend (April 25-27) when some of the top prep milers from the northeast and beyond leg it out at the 119th annual Penn Relays Carnival, held at historic Franklin Field.

Updated Penn Preview: Boys

Overview: To some, winning a Penn Relays Gold Watch is a goal just as, and even sometimes moreso important than winning a national championship.  Watches are awarded only to the overall American winners in Championship of America events at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, kicking off for the 119th time this Thursday at Franklin Field.  In some cases, most notably the sprints, it is harder to win a spot on the top of the medal stand than it is to win a national championship.  This fact is because of the international draw the relays bring to Philly; currently, there are 62 schools registered that are not from the United States, with Jamaica the most represented foreign country with 32 individual schools.  For some, winning a watch means beating the world.
