  • Shakinah Brooks (Southeast Raleigh) had a big day, starting with a 12.49 in the 100 Dash (NC #3).  It continued with a 17' 7.75" long jump (NC #5), then concluded with a 24.97 200 (NC #3).
  • Likewise for teammate Amara Bell, who jumped 17' 0" (2nd place), 5' 4" (2nd place), and 35' 10.75" (1st place) to earn 26 points in the field events.

Boys Highlights

  • Knightdale's boys won three relays, including a state-leading 4x800 time of 8:08.59.  The Knights also ran 42.92 in the 4x100 and 3:18.55 in the 4x400.
  • Southeast Raleigh's boys won the 4x200 with a time of 1:29.92, the top time in NC so far this season.
  • The best race of the day was between Marquavious Johnson (Knightdale) and Xavier Jones (Ragsdale) in the 400.  Johnson pulled out the win with a time of 49.06, with Jones just a hundredth of a second behind.  Those are the top two times in the state this season.
  • Jon Beyle (East Chapel Hill) continued to dominate in the throws.  His throw of 166' 6" in the discus would be the best in the state, except for his own throw three weeks ago that was 15 feet longer.  He also produced a 57' 7" mark in the shot put.
  • James Drummond (Lexington) improved his state-leading time in the 200 to 21.59, defeating an understandably tired Jones in the process.
  • Sandy Chapman (Southeast Raleigh) prevailed in a long jump that was dampened by a strong headwind, jumping 22' 6.5" (NC #4).
  • Kimani Hoffman (Southeast Raleigh) became the second North Carolina athlete to jump over 46 feet in the triple jump, clearing 46' 1" (NC #2).
