Despite a disqualification in the 800 Relay, Greensboro Dudley's girls accumulated 60 points to win for the second straight year.

1985 was the first year the girls 300-meter hurdles was run.

Lee County's Marriane Carraher won the 1600 in 5:18.21, then came back and ran 2:12.43 to break the state meet 800 record. The old record was 2:13.5 by Delphine Mabry (Southwest Edgecombe) in 1982. As of early 2003 Carraher's record still stood. Carraher participated in a third event that night -- it was prom night and she had to rush back to Sanford to join her classmates on the dance floor.
