Meet Information

Welcome to the 2019 Patriot Derby Cross-Country Meet at the Carolina Horse Park!

This meet will feature some of the fastest teams in the state of North Carolina and will be held at the site of the 2019 NCHSAA 4A Mid-East Regional Championship and the 2019 NCHSAA 4A - Sandhills Athletic Conference Championship. Families and spectators are highly encouraged to come watch these amazing athletes compete. There will be electronic timing (rrtiming.com) for all races, T-Shirt vendor(s), food truck(s) and music.

This meet is open to High School teams and individual competitors in the 9-12th grades representing their schools (athletes must wear a high school uniform). No unattached runners, club teams or middle school athletes permitted.

A maximum of 60 teams will be allowed to compete.

Schools may only enter athletes in one of the two varsity races.

27 September:

5:30 -7:30 pm - Course can be opened for 'a run through' if requested in advance. Please send email to the meet director at johnfbuchholz@gmail.com so access can be coordinated in advance. Please do NOT show up early or fail to coordinate as the Carolina Horse Park is a commercial equestrian park with ongoing activities. For your athlete's safety and as a courtesy to our gracious hosts, please coordinate your run-through with the meet director.

28 September (Race Day):

7:30 am - Park Opens

7:30-8:30 am - Packet pick-up and Coaches' Social

9:00 am - Boys Future Varsity 5k (Unlimited Entries) - Race clock STOPS at 35 minutes

9:40 am - Girls Future Varsity 5K (Unlimited Entries - Race clock STOPS at 35 minutes

10:20 am- Boys Invitational Varsity 5k (Up to 10 entries) - Race clock STOPS at 30 minutes.

10:55 am - Girls Invitational Varsity 5k (Up to 10 entries) - Race clock STOPS at 30 minutes.

11:30 am- Boys Championship Varsity 5k (Unlimited Entries) - Race clock STOPS at 30 minutes.

12:05 pm - Girls Championship Varsity 5k (Unlimited Entries) - Race clock STOPS at 30 minutes.

12:40 pm - Awards Presentation.

Top 2 teams will receive an award & Top 15 individuals in each race will receive medals

Course Description

This course starts and finishes on the horse track (its a grass track). Athletes will start on the track in front of the grandstands running clockwise around the track to 'turn 4" where they depart the track into the woods. The off-track trail is a large figure 8 that follows a trail through piney woods and an open field with mild to moderate hilly sections. The total elevation gain/loss across the entire course is approximately 40 feet. Runners will finish the race with 1 lap (counterclockwise) around the horse track. Coaches and spectators can easily move from the 1 mile to the 2 mile marks and still be able to catch the finish!

Fees

$150 per school for 40 or less entries (genders combined)**

$200 per school for 41 or more entries (genders combined)**

$20 per athlete for individuals (or teams with 7 or less entries -genders combined)**

**Refunds will only be given if the meet is cancelled.

$10 per car parking fee (All vehicles except school buses). There is no fee for school buses - Buses have a separate parking area (follow the signs!). There will be no other vehicles except buses allowed in this area for athlete safety reasons.
