Meet Information

JEREMY GAINES INVITE HISTORY:

This will be the 11th year of the Jeremy Gaines Invite. Jeremy Gaines was the senior captain of the FCS 2002 boys NCISAA 1A/2A state championship team. On Sept 23, 2006 died and passed into the presence of his God, Jesus Christ. Coach Hess was in the hospital along with about 15 others when he died of cancer. The day following his memorial service was our regularly schedule conference meet. We asked the Gaines family if we could call the meet the Jeremy Gaines Invitational meet. They actually attended the meet 24 hours after burying their son. Since that meet Mr. Mrs Gaines have been providing all the funding for the meet so there is no charge for any team. It is always an emotional day for them. Mr. Gaines plans on being at the meet and normally rides all our most of the way in the lead "gator" vehicle with me for the race. Note that this year for the first time the meet will be held on the anniversary date of Jeremy's death, who was an outstanding young man. Mrs. Gaines is a cancer nurse at our local hospital.

Here's a little more history: The course record for boys is: 17:53 by Alex Nadaud of CFA. Although, the old course record (3.0 course) was 15:33 (equivalent to a 16:06 by Bobby Mintz of Cary Christian now running for NCSU). The girls course record is 19:10 by Jennifer Stephenson of Village Christian Academy. This is our 3rd year with this new course.
