I need pictures from all over the state of athletes competing in the cold. I am putting together a presentation for the building of a new facility. I have found a huge amount of support and need your help enhancing the presentation. I need pictures with the breath of athletes hovering in the air around them. I need pictures of snow on the infield. I need pictures of kids in earmuffs and mittens, long johns and over coats.

Coach Adams, I don't want this issue to get lost in all the other conversations on here. I believe this is one of the most important steps to advancing indoor track in our state--we need another facility! If there is anything I can do to help you with your work in this area, please let me know. I am sure others feel the same.

Here are a few pictures I knew were posted from a Polar Bear we hosted a couple of years ago. http://nc.milesplit.us/photos/files/320547 http://nc.milesplit.us/photos/files/320622 http://nc.milesplit.us/photos/files/320712 http://nc.milesplit.us/photos/files/320707 http://nc.milesplit.us/photos/files/320757 http://nc.milesplit.us/photos/files/320510 It would be interesting to see how many meets this winter were canceled or postponed due to the weather. We moved one of our's, got an away meet canceled and ran one under 40 degrees. It goes without saying that another indoor facility would be great. Seems like a multi-use facility could be financially viable. I remember there was talk (seemed like a done deal) about having a track in the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center that opened several years ago. Around that time I remember hearing about this amazing new XC course that was coming to Charlotte. I guess neither one happened. Rick Spencer Weddington High School

I think that this is a terrific idea. North Carolina really needs to have more indoor facilities. We have a moderate winter, but it can be pretty ugly as our last one showed. As a coach in Cabarrus County, I really like the idea of trying to get a meet in Cabarrus Arena. It could accomodate teams from all over the Charlotte region and the arena just sits idle most of the year. At the very least there needs to be something in the western half of the state. Let me know how I can help. Bob Allensworth Concord High School

Great idea, I wish I had pictures for you. I have often thought about how we could get a facility opened, but always ran into the problem of what the facility would be used for the other times of year. I know that there are many coaches that would be willing to host meets (me for one), so that we could have 2-3 meets at the location a week, hosted by different schools. Daniel Helms

I competed here while in college and always thought something like this could be successful in NC. Check out the link below. I couldn't find any good pics but you can get the idea. http://www.reccenter.siu.edu/images/stories/Facilities/guided_tour_booklet_PDF2.pdf

thanks for the interest and feedback. For a while i thought no one was interested. I have a 32-page proposal floating around and have received some solid feedback from some very impressive people and organizations. I am in the process of meeting with local folks in the east. believe it or not, there were areas in NC that got very little snow. I have found a good location that can support a facility and is ideal for numerous reasons. I have requested a partnership with the coaches association. A non-profit must be a part of the funding. I have also put together figures on what we spend out of state for several meets. I am attacking the issue from an economic stance. the department of sportd development and the sec. of commerece have expressed interest. Phase two is to sell the idea and put together a presentation. That's where the pictures will come in. I am in the process of creating a video/cd for the presentattion. More info to come shortly. Keep the support coming.
