North Carolina high school track and field athletes posted personal records across multiple events during competition from April 20-26.
Nastassja Taylor (High Point Central) ran 24.60 in the 200 meters at the PAC-7 meet on April 23, improving from her previous best of 32.44. The sophomore's time ranks #23 in North Carolina and #6 among sophomores statewide. Taylor also set a personal record in the 100 meters, running 14.75 to improve from 14.83.
Donquez Thompkins (Lakewood) jumped 21-6 in the long jump at Lejeune #2 on April 23, improving from his previous mark of 18-9.5. The junior's jump places him #85 in the state and #28 among juniors. Thompkins also ran 12.10 in the 100 meters, improving from 12.34.
Jonathan Gbassagee (Jordan) threw 137-8 in the discus at the AFHS-QC 7 Meet on April 22, improving from his previous best of 120-1 set in April. The sophomore's throw ranks #105 statewide and #11 among sophomores. Gbassagee also set a personal record in the shot put with a throw of 36-9, improving from 34-7.
Pandora Childs (Forestview) ran 12.25 in the 100 meters at South Point HS #3 on April 22, improving from her previous time of 14.26. The senior's time ranks #62 in North Carolina and she placed first among 19 competitors.
Jaden Carr (Wallace-Rose Hill) ran 12.37 in the 100 meters at the SVAC Conference Meet on April 22, improving from 13.64. The junior's time ranks #92 statewide and #26 among juniors.
Alex Leal-Hernandez (East Burke) threw 141-11 in the discus at the East Burke Conference Meet 2 on April 23, improving from 123-9. The senior's throw ranks #80 in the state and #43 among seniors.
