Over the years this meet has been used by the public schools to check out the state meet course. With the move to Beeson Park in Winston-Salem, this meet was VERY popular this year. So many teams wanted to come and run, tempo, race, or walk the new course.

It's difficult for coaches to look at these results and take too much from the team competition. So many teams were running the course as a workout or just running as a group. As someone looking in, I wouldn't make too many assumptions about teams unless a team just simply caught my eye. There were definitely a few teams & individuals that did so . . . let's take a look at those eye catchers:

4A Teams & Individuals
Samantha George of Millbrook proved the course is fast enough, as she cracked 18:00 to win by just over 30 seconds in 17:55.

Shelby Howell of New Hanover was 5th overall and could be looking for a top 10 finish at the 4A state meet.

Broughton's girls looked good early, didn't look great after that, but with a solid pack in the heat ofthe afternoon may be back. 20:07-20:46 for their top-5.

3A Teams & Individuals

Jimmy Hollingsworth of Northern Guilford, 2nd in 16:00, has made it a 4-way race for the 3A title. This one should be real fun to watch come early November. Colo, Koerwitz, Crawford, Bass & Hollingsworth!

The East Rowan boys looked good but many of the teams they beat weren't racing all out, so don't let their team place fool you. Their top 5 were 16:46-17:46 for a solid 1:00 spread. This team certainly should be ranked and should very well be in the mix for a top 7 finish at the state meet.

2A Teams & Individuals
North Lincoln's girls are for real and have busted onto the scene. Can they challenge Carrboro for a team title? Not likely, but not out of the question as anything can happen. Are they real enough to be ranked as high as 2nd in the 2A poll? Yes. Led by Savannah Fornshell in 20:32, they have a solid group of girls with no senior in their top 7! Look out!

Travis Alfaro of Lincolnton has been racing, but no one really knew where he was against competition. Travis proved he can run with some of the best in the state as he placed 7th overall in the Championship race in 16:32.

In the boys Varsity race, a 16:33 was put down by another 2A individual, Eric Williams of Northwood. That's two top individuals within 2 seconds! Another tight individual race in November.

East Lincoln's Dylan Belle was just 13 seconds back to possibly give that duo one more person to worry about at the state meet.

1A Teams & Individuals
East Wilkes's Carol Blankenship ran 19:11 in the heat and completely alone. She's still the class of the field in the 1A girls competition.

Hayesville's boys found another runner to go with Tyler Breedove, as sophomore Dylan Johnson went 16:58. Could help their team chances quite a bit.

At Cannon's tough course, Haylee Dawe proved she's the one to beat in the NCISAA as she rocked a 19:07. This is definitely close to 18:00 on a course like McAlpine Park. Latin's top 3 looked very good as they all defeated Stephanie Schauder of Cannon who was coming off an 18:45 at Hagan Stone.
