Blake Williams of Northern Durham, the state's top returning runner, proved he's had a good summer training. He dropped a 15:07 to run away from the field and also set a new course record.

The SV course is short by about 39 meters, but so many argue about courses around the state that it's only fair to post them. What's more important is to see how teams stacked up and how individuals ran. South View and Millbrook could both be teams to watch in 4A this year on the boy's side.

Millbrook's girls won the championship race led by superstar Samantha George. George set a new course record, breaking her own from last year. This is a team that could be dangerous as word on the street is they were missing 2 of their top 5 runners. I definitely see this team in the top-10 of the 4A classification in the next Coaches' Poll.

If the Fike girl's team can get their 3-5 to improve it could be one very good team in 3A. With 2 girls racing quite well already this season, they just need depth. The Topsail girls look pretty good once again and probably deserve to be ranked in the 2A poll.

The Charlotte Latin girls are very good! Their top 3 paced girls, all seniors, sat back in the race and paced their 4th and 5th runners, 9th graders, to top 10 finishes and sub-21:00 clockings on a tough course. The battle for 2nd in the NCISAA girls event has already begun to shape up as Forsyth Country Day and Ravenscroft both looked solid. Greensboro Day could be a surprise school to break into the top 3 come states. Forsyth's Doreen Lagemann, new on the NCISAA scene, was the overall champ in the race running just over 20:00. Cary Christian looks to be the team to beat for the 1A/2A title this year. Also, West Henderson was 2nd overall, still looking quite good. They deserve to be way up in the 2A poll.

The boys race was won by Bobby Mintz of Cary Christian in a new course record, 16:05. Scott Morgan of Calvary Baptist and Thomas Graham of Cary Academy both ran faster than the previous record as well, clocking 16:09 and 16:11. Graham was running a workout and looked quite good cruising through the course. The Providence Day boys team won with a solid top 3, 7th, 8th, & 11th. Despite the gap back to number 4 they were able to hold off Cary Academy for the win. High Point Christian Academy finished 3rd overall and deserves to get the nod as the early favorites for the 1A/2A state title.

TC Roberson swept the International races, taking home both team titles. Both teams look solid running on courses that aren't considered to be very fast.

Lake Norman Charter won the boy's Championship race and was 2nd in the girls race. Both teams could very well be ranked #1 in the next 1A Coaches' Poll. Their girls defeated the current #1 ranked team of Hendersonville pretty solidly.
