Fenske earns Academic All-District honors

Sophomore Christina Fenske was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team for women's track & field announced by College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Fenske set the HPU record in the high jump this season.

"Christina embodies everything that a student-athlete should be," said HPU head coach Mike Esposito. "She is proof that you can excel both academically and athletically. She just manages her time so she can get everything done that she needs to get done."

In her two years at HPU, Fenske is a two-time Millis Scholar-Athlete and has maintained a 3.98 grade point average while majoring in Exercise Science.

In the high jump, Fenske finished second at both the Big South indoor and outdoor title meets. She had a very consistent outdoor season, equaling her previous career best of 1.70 meters (5-7) at the Joe Hilton Carolina Fast Times meet before a huge breakthrough at the N.C. A&T Aggie Classic, where she cleared 1.78 meters (5-10).

Fenske's career-best and HPU-record mark of 1.78 meters qualified her for the first round of the NCAA Championship in Greensboro, N.C. She placed 29th in the high jump with a leap of 1.69 meters (5-6.5) and had two good attempts at 1.74 meters (5-8.5).
