The High Point University women's track & field team got wins from sophomores Christina Fenske and Manika Gamble as it hosted the second-annual VertKlasse Meeting on Sunday evening at Vert Stadium.

"Christina has been really consistent this season and she had another good night," said HPU head coach Mike Esposito. "Manika's time was another national-class performance and continued her great season. We were really happy to get a four wins tonight – two for the men and two for the women – and the event came off great."

Fenske cleared 5-5.25 to win the high jump and Gamble ran a time of 58.98 to win the 400-meter hurdles. For Gamble, her time was just off the 58.56 she ran at the Pepsi Florida Relays earlier this month. Sophomore Erin Lonon ran a career-best 1:05.24 in the 400-meter hurdles.

HPU also got a strong showing from Geneva Winterink, who placed fifth in the 1,500-meter in 4:45.33. Behind Winterink, freshmen Dani Paul and Kaylyn Peck took 11th and 12th in 4:59.82 and 5:01.63, respectively.

In the women's 5,000-meter, Brittany Killough placed sixth in 18:13.89 and Emily Webb took seventh in 18:19.17. Sophomore Monica Delizo took 12th in 18:38.67. Two-time Olympian Zola Budd-Pieterse attempted a South African masters record in the 5,000-meter but came up just short in 18:04.77.

Rachel Webb cleared 10-6 in the pole vault to place eighth and better her HPU record of 9-8.5 set last year. In the women's shot put, HPU claimed the 2-5 finishes, with senior Kara Boatman leading the way with a throw of 37-10.5. Joy Hunt placed third with a throw of 36-6.25 and she was followed by Lynee Pina and Gabrielle Barnes. Pina also placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 101-0.
