Senior Josh Morgan ran a career-best 3:46.13 to place eighth in a loaded 1,500-meter race to lead the High Point University men's track & field team at the Joe Hilton Carolina Fast Times meet on Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

"That was a great breakthrough for Josh," said HPU head coach Mike Esposito. "It was a really fast race and Josh closed well. His time should solidify his position for the first round of the NCAA Championship. TJ Brancaccio also had a good performance in the pole vault and he seems poised to go higher."

Morgan's 3:46.13 beat his previous career best of 3:49.16, which he ran at the Stanford Invitational on March 26. Morgan is the second-fastest 1,500-meter runner in HPU history behind only record-holder Taylor Milne. NC State's Ryan Hill won the race at UNC in 3:40.81.

Junior TJ Brancaccio cleared 15-1 to place seventh in the pole vault. He cleared 15-3 in the pole vault at the Aggie Relays last week.

Junior Justin Conaway placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in 10.98 and took 17th in the 200-meter in 22.73. Also in the sprints, sophomore Sebastien Bonnot took 19th in the 400-meter in 52.29 and placed 21st in the 200-meter in 23.36. Sophomore Alex Ruano took 20th in the 200-meter 52.67.

Senior Josh Cashman placed second in his heat of the 800-meter in 1:57.19 after leading most of the race. He took 24th overall. Rounding out the Panthers' competitors, sophomore Ben AuYeung placed 19th in the long jump and also competed in the shot put.

The Panthers compete for the conference title next week as the Big South Championship runs April 15-17 at Charleston Southern.
