The High Point University women's track & field team finished up the Duke Invitational on Saturday in Durham, N.C. Senior Geneva Winterink led HPU with a 13th-place finish in her debut 3,000-meter steeplechase.

"Geneva had a very good race in her first-ever steeplechase. She ran about 20 seconds faster than the goal we set going into today," said HPU assistant coach Julie Cox. "The 1,500s went well. Emily Webb hasn't really run something like that since high school, and that was her best time in that event by about five seconds. Kelsey Paine is gaining experience and improving in every 800 she runs."

On Friday evening, junior Emily Webb ran 4:53.64 in the 1,500-meter to place 10th in her heat and 43rd overall in a very competitive field of the seeded 1,500-meter. In the developmental section of the 1,500-meter, Brittany Killough took seventh in her heat and 10th overall in 5:04.00.

On Saturday morning, freshman Kelsey Paine finished 23rd in the developmental section of the 800-meter in a season-best 2:24.40. Behind Paine, Dianna Bell finished 65th in 2:34.57.

Winterink finished off the meet for HPU, finishing 13th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She finished in 11:20.55.

Next weekend, High Point will be competing in both the Carolina Classic at UNC and the Murray Neely Invitational at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
