Sophomore
Manika Gamble placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the High Point University women's track & field team in the first day of the Raleigh Relays on Friday at NC State. Gamble also qualified for Saturday's finals in the 100-meter hurdles.
Gamble ran a time of 1:01.13 in the 400-meter hurdles for the fifth place finish. In the 100-meter hurdles, she ran a time of 14.24 to place 15th in the preliminaries and qualify for the finals.
In HPU's final action of the night,
Geneva Winterink ran a time of 18:06.83 to place 25th in a competitive section of the 5,000-meter and
Emily Webb took 29th in 18:33.07 in the same race. Earlier in the day,
Monica Delizo took third in her section of the 5,000-meter with a time of 18:41.19, coming in a head of freshman
Kelsey Hunt, who placed eighth in 19:07.96.
Sophomore
Christina Fenske tied for 10th in the high jump, clearing 5-3. Also in the field events,
Kara Boatman threw the shot put 33-7.25 to finish 28th and
Joy Hunt took 47th in the shot put and 47th in the discus. Freshman
Lynee Pina threw the discus 109-8 to place 40th.
Gabrielle Barnes competed in the long jump and 100-meter hurdles and
Lora Robinson ran the 100-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles.
The meet continues on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for the Panthers, when
Kelsey Hinchliffe runs the 3,000-meter steeplechase. HPU has six runners in the 1,500-meter, including senior
Joya Canfield, and four in the 800-meter.
