HPU men's track finishes Wake Forest Open

COMPLETE RESULTS

The High Point University men's track & field team wrapped up competition at the 2010 Wake Forest Open on Saturday, with athletes competing in four events.

"We got some solid performances in this weekend," said HPU head coach Mike Esposito. "Last night our 1,500-meter runners got some good work running the 3,000. Josh Morgan competed very well and Jevin Monds took charge of the race but didn't close very well. We're very excited that Alex Fisher went under 15 seconds in the 110 hurdles and Joshua Pelletier set the school record in the javelin. Josh Cashman ran his best season-opening time in the 800, which was encouraging."

In Saturday's events, sophomore Jacob Mathews cleared 13-1.5 to place fifth in the B section of the pole vault and sophomore Mike Feroe took 15th in his heat and 105th out of 127 runners in the 1,500-meter with a time of 4:24.46.

In the 200-meter dash, Justin Conaway finished fifth in his heat and 78th overall in a time of 23.08 seconds and Sebastien Bonnot took second in his heat and 102nd in of the field of 139 in a time of 23.68.

On Friday night, senior Josh Morgan ran a time of 8:26.90 in the 3,000-meter to place second and junior Jevin Monds placed seventh in 8:38.33. Freshman Joshua Pelletier broke the HPU record in the javelin with a throw of 196-2 to place sixth in the event.

Next weekend, High Point will send student-athletes to both the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and the Raleigh Relays at NC State in Raleigh, N.C.
