LIVE STATS

The High Point University women's track & field team head to Clemson, S.C. for the 2010 Big South Indoor Championship this weekend. Events will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.

“Everything we do in the indoor season is geared toward preparing for the indoor championship,” said head coach Mike Esposito. “We feel very confident that we can finish in the top four and the girls are ready to compete this weekend.”

The women will look to defend their title in the distance medley relay, won last year by Geneva Winterink, Joya Canfield, Shauna Marsh and Manika Gamble. This year Vanessa Piacente will step in to Marsh's spot.

Gamble will also run the 60-meter hurdles, 200-meter and a leg in the 1,600-meter relay.
Winterink and Piacente will run the mile along with Kaylyn Peck and Kelsey Fraser.

HPU has four entries in the 800-meter as well, with Piacente and Canfield being joined by freshmen Dani Paul and Kelsey Paine. In the 5,000-meter HPU will run Emily Webb, Monica Delizo, Brittany Killough and Winterink.

Sophomore Christina Fenske finished second in the high jump at the 2009 Big South Indoor Championship and won the event at the 2009 Outdoor Championship and will look for the win

“We are asking a lot of our athletes this weekend by running them in multiple events,” Esposito said. “But we think they are ready for it and will perform well.”
