CLEMSON, S.C. –
Tom Divinnie bested his own school record in the 3000-meter run and a new Davidson distance medley relay standard was set Thursday during the first day of competition in the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Indoor Track Complex on the campus of Clemson University.

As a team, Davidson is in fifth place with 16 points, trailing Western Carolina (62), Appalachian State (60), Samford (55.50) and The Citadel (20.50).

Senior Mordecai Scott also equaled the 60-meter dash record with a time of 7.13 seconds. Scott equaled the mark set by Kwame Som-Pimpong in 2008. He also ran the 200m dash in a personal-best 22.99 to move onto Davidson's top-10 performers list.

Divinnie finished in eight minutes, 20.39 seconds to best the Davidson standard of 8:24.47 that he set earlier this season. Not far behind was teammate Ryan Hopkins, who finished in scoring position in sixth place with a personal-best, Davidson top-10 all-time performance in 8:28.83.

Senior Blake Evitt, sophomore Melaku Teka, freshman Vincent Weir and senior Peter Bruton finished third in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:16.61, the fastest-ever in school history on a regulation size track.

Sophomore Ethan Dunn leaped a career-best 21-0 ½ (6.41m) to place in scoring position in eight and also move on to the Wildcats' top-10 performers list.

Several 'Cats also competed in the sprints but did not advance out of the preliminary rounds.

Competition will conclude Friday.
